Seed Crisis!
by Ether
Saturday eve we tucked in to have a relaxing time of starting seed and watching a movie. Or so we thought at least. There we were, flats and pots, starting mix, water, our movie, all ready to go. But wait a minute- where are the SEEDS?! So we start hunting. We looked into the big plastic tote of gardening stuff, not there. We looked in the basement where we’d last seen the bag of fall-planting materials, not there. We checked the pantry, not there. We checked the fridge, not there either!
And so it was that we started tearing apart the house from top to bottom and bottom to top. The seeds (along with a few other things including my garden gloves and our row-cover material) were nowhere to be found. All the seed saved from last year’s purchases as well as painstaking saved from our beloved garden- gone!
So now we’re poring over seed catalogues, gazing into our bank accounts, and looking over seed swaps trying to bounce back and not lose too much time in the process. Of course, seed-swaps are hard to do when you have no seed, but I am offering hand-painted watercolor post- or greeting-cards in botanical themes.
Just goes to show- always put things back where they belong when you’re done with them! Or something. We’re still not sure what happened to our lovely seeds exactly, but they’re definitely not here.

Ohhhhhhh Nooooooooo. That is horrible. Hope you are able to get more. Vegies or flowers? I just started doing flowers and kept what may or may not be seeds from mine last year. I think maybe I did ok though cause some things are starting to show through. Wish I had a few more or if I knew they were good to send to ya. I did get lots of little money plant seeds and I know they’re good cause they’re coming up great. The money might come in handy for ya to get more LOL.

As soon as you place those seed orders your original seeds will turn up. I love the idea of sowing your seeds while watching a movie. I always do mine in the greenhouse so this did take me rather by surprise

We nurse our starts in the dining room, and do the planting on the living-room floor. It’s all hardwood anyhow, so cleanup is a breeze with the broom!

All veggies- if you check back a few posts you’ll see the list. There were only a few items on that list which weren’t saved from last year and I was intending to purchase. As it stands now, I’m probably not ordering any of the flowers I’d intended to, and streamlining my varieties this year too. Oof.

Oh no! I bet they show up eventually. Did you take them somewhere? To a swap? Could they be hiding in your car?

Are you still in need? My mom sends me way more seeds than I need (she works at a farmers co-op), I can look through my stash and see what I’m not using.
